Speed
The speed of rotation of the scrambling surface of the CLIFF
is adjustable by using the front panel ‘speed up’ and ‘speed
down’ keys. In the manual mode it can be varied in the range
of 10 – 50 feet per minute. In the automatic modes (program
and smart modes) the speed will automatically vary but yet
will always remain in this range. The lower speeds are
suitable for beginners or for warm ups while the larger speeds
are for experts or for more intense workouts.
Angle
Angle – Like the Speed, the climbing
angle of scrambling surface of the CLIFF is adjustable by
using the front panel ‘Incline up’ and ‘Incline down’
keys. The CLIFF can be made a slab of angle from 70-89
degrees, a wall of 90 degrees and an overhang from 90-130
degrees from the horizontal. The slab angles are more
suitable for a lower body workout, the wall for an average
full body and the overhangs are more suitable an upper
body (fore-arms, biceps, triceps, shoulders and chest)
workout.
Front Panel
The entire control of the CLIFF lies in the front panel. The
angle of the panel is adjustable to suite the climber climbing
the wall or the trainer instruction the climber.
Display –
The front panel has large six windows display each employing
half inch red segments for visibility in the extreme of
lighting conditions. The six windows display the two control
parameters, viz. speed and angle, & the four threshold
parameters viz Distance, Time, Calories and Pulse. The
calories window doubles up as a weight input of the person
for calorie calculations.
Switches
– The front panel employs heavy duty tactile with a surface
flushed design to prevent mis-triggering of the controls due
to casual hand brushes to the panel by a passer-by or an
on-looker. The switches include program modes, the smart
modes, control parameters, Threshold parameters, start and
stop keys.
Controls
– The controls of the front panel are within easy reach of
the climber and/or the trainer and the face can be adjusted
to suit both. These can be manipulated on-the-fly without
requiring the climber to stop the machine to take the
changes into effect.
Program mode
Four program
modes are available in the CLIFF, each of which are 5 minutes
long and covering intensity levels of climbing a mountain. These
are as follows:
WARM UP -
This mode is mainly for beginners or for warming up before
exercising the full body. It will mainly be at slab angles and
at lower speeds.
UPPER BODY
- This mode is mainly for users interested in working out
their upper body. It will mainly be at overhang angles and at
low to medium speeds.
LOWER BODY
- This mode is for users interested in working out their lower
body. It will mainly be at slab and wall angles and at medium
to high speeds.
FULL BODY - This mode is for a full body work out. It will mainly
be at wall angle (90 degree) and at medium to high speeds.
Smart modes
There are
two smart modes in the CLIFF, which will ‘see’ where the
climber is on the wall and then change certain parameters of
the climb accordingly.
Smart Speed – Here the speed of the climb will start with the
basic 10 feet per minute and will go on increasing 5
points every-time the user reaches the top. The speed will
come down, every-time time the user reached the bottom
Smart
Position – Here the speed of the surface is always zero
but the wall will move down by 2 feet every time the user
climbs up to the top.
The Holds
The Holds are made of
cast aluminum, with special surface textured stone finish,
which is stronger than the regular plastic resin based
holds thus giving longer life. These holds can be adjusted
onto the 164 possible positions for the 30 holds.
Individual holds can be mounted at any angle (0-360
degrees) further increasing climb complexity. Lastly, the
colored coded holds can be used for creating various route
of different climb complexities for various climbers.
